Together,
Wherever We Go -
Part of the Black Theatre & Dance Collective, Freedom Players is a dynamic ensemble that creates original performances exploring social justice issues. Led by Billicia Charnelle Hines and Dr. RAS Mikey Courtney, the group collaborates with Detroit Public Schools Community District, engaging thousands of middle and high school students each year. Through devised theatre, an improvisational, collaborative storytelling process, the ensemble crafts powerful new works that reflect evolving conversations on race, privilege, and equity in Detroit.
This year’s revue, Together, Wherever We Go, weaves a vibrant and heartwarming story about a high school senior who sets off on an unforgettable road trip to New York City for her first Broadway callback. As she embarks on the journey with her familyfamily in tow, the show delights audiences with spectacular performances of beloved numbers from various cherished musicals, such as The Lightning Thief, Hairspray, Annie, Pippin, Shrek, and Beetlejuice; each performance is a celebration of passion, talent, and the magic of theatre.
